Roulette wheel
Roulette is a French word which means "small wheel". Roulette is a popularly called as the king of casino games. There is a rough idea that the game was discovered in the seventeenth century. Blaise Pascal was the creator of the Roulette wheel while trying to create a perpetual motion machine.
The first thing which is noticed while playing Roulette is the captivating Roulette wheel. The original Roulette wheel with single-zero was introduced by the French brothers Francois and Louis Blanc. But later when Roulette was introduced in America a new version of Roulette came into existence, a Roulette wheel with double zero.
Types of Roulette wheel
Roulette wheel is of two types – American Roulette wheel and European Roulette wheel. The oldest and the most famous type is European wheel. This wheel has only one zero in green color and numbers from 1 to 36 evenly divided between red and black color. With only one zero the European wheel offers a house edge of 2.70%. The other type is American Roulette wheel which has a single and a double zero in green color, along with the numbers from 1 to 36. The American Roulette wheel offers a house advantage of 5.26% which is double the European Roulette.

Roulette wheel is popular from centuries among the gamblers for its simple design and complicated arrangement of numbers, to ensure randomness. The most attractive part of Roulette wheel is the alternating red and black colors. The zeros in a Roulette wheel are placed in green color. The numbers in a standard Roulette wheel are arranged in pairs.
A standard Roulette wheel is made up of a fixed bowl and an inner wheel with numbers on it. When a Roulette wheel is spun a white ball is thrown in the opposite direction which stops into any slot. The Roulette wheel has two betting areas- Inside and Outside Betting area. The numbers in Inside area are arranged in 12 rows of three numbers forming three vertical columns. The outside betting area consists of slots with red or black, even or odd and other different combination of numbers.
